My interest is in children’s social development, especially the
father’s role in the family. I have pursued this issue since the
late 1960s. Being part of the international effort to highlight

Currently my research concerns changing family forms, transnational
parenting and the ways in which new community housing arrangements,
such as cohousing, facilitate intergenerational relationships. I
recently authored Future Families: Diverse Forms, Rich Possibilities
(2013) which addresses shifting family forms and the
implications of these changes for children’s development.
